Today my article would be different from the few you have seen from me. Today i will want us to drive into the Entertainment Industry in Nigeria. Again this article is based on my opinions, so feel free to drop yours in the comment section. Since we are all in the same page, without much ado, i will like us to dive into the issues on ground.

It is known that the Entertainment Industry in Nigeria has been the leading Entertainment Industry in the whole of Africa for a very long time, and the second largest in the world in terms of movies. But today we would be talking on The Music Industry while we leave that of  Movie for another article. Now some years back, though the music then now called old school, was something one could recon with, am talking in the times of Late Sonny Okosun, Late Fela Kuti, Late Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe, Celestine Ukwu, Bongos Ikwue, Majek Fashek and the rest of them, though back then there was no FL Studio, no Sonic, no Audacity and so on that we have today to make music easy for them. Back then doing music was for only those who knew what music was all about and knew how to do music. After their era came the likes of Plantation Boyz, Style Plus, Paul Ik Dairo Daddy Showkey, African China and others. Even the ghetto group called Danfo Drivers had some good songs passed messages in their songs telling us about things happening in the ghetto, and could be used as reference in today’s world. And there i was, thinking that our music industry was going to have its name written on the rocks of time, but today i see a very slim chance of opportunity of that happening. People just rush into music, or call themselves artists without knowing what it takes to be an artist. These great musician i mentioned, we will say they did a great job by creating a standard for musicians to follow. Since this standard we will call old school too, it was only right that we build on it and develop it to a modern and more better standard way of doing music which we can call new school without throwing a way the core value of music. They are a lot of things to tell in our music that are still untold. To me i feel if the whole Nigerians should do good music, we will never lack good ideas for that. But today, opposite is the case as to what we get today. Back then every kind of music could be played in front of kids without been scared of coming across words or messages that could cause harm to them. But it is not like that any more. It is very sad to know that these days artists have no idea on what it means to know the value of music before producing one. Growing up, i was told that music was another medium used to pass message, but today i find it so hard to get any message in the songs, that is if the artist  tried to give one at any point of the song. I am not saying that we don’t have good artists today who are aware of the values of music and are doing their best based on these values. We have people like Tu face (former member of the Plantation Boyz), people like them Banky W, Darey Art Alade, people like Them M.i, Falz and the rest, but are over shadowed by those who do music for all the wrong reasons. People who call themselves artists, and only give out rubbish in the name of doing music. But again, i seem blame them entirely. I guess they are only giving us such because we encourage them to do so, now look at what that has caused us. It is not enough to just be nominated for the Grammy. Good music is more than the awards, or the fame, or the money. With music i believe that one could shape the minds of a whole nation for a good cause. It is allowed to tell your story through music in order to inspire others. But what i hear these days in our music are nothing but lies. Artists talking about huge amounts of money they own which we all know are not true, they talk about dating girls which we know are way above their pay grade and so becomes false, or fighting each other for only God knows why. All these time and energy and money they are wasting to give us such rubbish, if only they could use that time to sit down and do their homework properly, i am very sure the industry won’t be like what we are witnessing today. What is the point of doing music when your sound only gives headache to your audience? I was watching an old interview with Sunny Neji sometime ago, and he talk about how hit songs were celebrated in his time. He said and i quote “In my time, a hit song was celebrated for a whole year, and that inspired artists then to work hard and produce hit songs. But now, Hit songs come out every week”. In his statement it sounded like he was impressed with what was going on then, but today, hit songs are produced every minute but the usual rubbish. Rubbish in the sense that these so called hits are not centered on the core values of music. I stand to be corrected when i say these values have been repeatedly abused and rubbished. Well just when i was thinking that the music industry in my country has met its doom, people like Johnny Drille, Jeff Akoh, Chike, Victor AD and some other new cats stepped in, which means the situation the industry has found itself in can be handled. I know they are many of these kind of artists who have not gotten the chance to showcase their talents because of either lack of connection, or lack of money to push their music out. All i am asking is that we give these guys support and encourage their dreams if it is that of making good music, not just for the money or fame, but for the passion and zeal to pass message across, and at the same time give good melody, so that we know who truly have what it takes to be in the industry, and for those who don’t, be kicked out without compromise before it becomes too late. Even the blind can see that out of a hundred percent of the youths, ninety nine percent love music. If we truly believe that music is a medium of transporting message, one can only imagine the kind of message the youths have consuming via this annoying noise given to us on a daily bases all in the name of music. I still have hope for this industry, and only when we tell these wanna be artists disturbing our sanity with rotten music to either do it right or back off, it will be difficult for us to win this war. Always promote good music, and if you come across rubbish ones, rebuke them. I think it is time we have strong companies and people who critic music without compromise, i think that would make artists sit up and do the right things Once more, i will like to say again, that these are my opinions. You should do well by dropping yours in the comment section. Thank You.

Before i start this article, i will like to point out that this article is based on my own opinions. Do well to drop yours in the comment section.

Now to the issue at hand. This issue has been tormenting my country for a very long time and i feel nothing has been done effectively to tackle the problem. What am i trying to say? We keep complaining about the security system in this country, but it is more like we just wasting the strength and saliva to point out things going wrong in our country, but nothing has been done by  us, or our leaders in order to tackle this problem. It is no news that our best security personels are asked to go guard the houses or convoys of our leaders, while the ones who didn’t make to the list of those going to guard our so called leaders are either sent on missions that is sure to kill them or they are not given the chance to carry out the duties they have sown to undertake effectively. Isn’t it heartbreaking to see  or know that our smart and gallant police officers are sent to protect either the rich or politicians, and my question is, if they haven’t done anything wrong to the everyday ordinary people, why then do they need unnecessary protection, and for that go for the best minds in the security agencies or say the whole security system at large,  while we are left with lousy, potbellied, lack of disciplined, lack of mannered  and weak police officers looking so hungry and unkept. How can such a personnel be entrusted with the lives and properties of a common man? Many of such police men become police men in the day time, and become criminals at night. Just because our leaders don’t care about it’s people, so they just go and pick men who are not competent or fit for such task of saving lives and properties? But again, for a country’s security to be strong, they are issues that are meant to be put in place.  With all the moneys pumped into the security system, it is so dis heartening to see repeatedly in the way they carry out their duties which shows lack of proper training, it is so disappointing to see that they lack discipline. And if you will agree with me, these two i have mentioned (Training and Disciple) are key to every security man or woman. To me these two qualities are meant to stand them out from the common man. This issue is not just talking about the police, but the whole security sector. It is so alarming that many of our smart and gallant soldiers are sent to suicide missions or ridiculous missions that makes no sense, all because they have no godfather, while the ones with godfathers are either kept in an air conditioned and well furnished office, or are placed in positions where they contribute little or nothing to the country, yet are paid heavily for doing nothing. Some years back while i was working with a mobile communication company, while on duty i met a chap who came to reclaim his mobile line which got missing. I asked for some documents from him so i could process his request. He gave them to me, and his id card confirming that he was a soldier. We got talking about the insurgency that was going on in the North Eastern states of Nigeria. Out of the question i asked him as part of the data i needed for his job, i noticed that his current location was in one of those states, so i took the conversation towards that direction. to cut the long story short, he told me he lost his phone while he was running for his life in last attack that happened in his camp. He said, when the insurgent group came to visit their camp, they had with them super weapons same with that of the military. He said the super weapons brought by the insurgent group were 8 in number, while the Military had only 3. Now the question is, who will brave enough to go ahead with the already lost battle? Apparently they had no such hero in their mist, so they all took to their heels. Now how can a military win a war against its opponent that is more war ready? Sometime ago i read online about the story of 54 soldiers who were sentenced to death for committing mutiny. This takes us back to the issue of discipline. But how can there be discipline when things are not done rightly. You don’t equip a soldier very well for war and you expect victory? Take care of these soldiers, show them that you appreciate all their sacrirific, give them the right tools and put them in the right places without the interference of godfathers. Give them what is due to them, and allow them carry out their duties to the best of their abilities and see how transformed security system would be. As i earlier said, all these are my own thoughts and opinions, you can add yours, or drop suggestions in the comment section. Thank You

I remember while growing up, i admired the military a lot. Though i never felt the military was for me, so i never bothered trying to join. Back then the military were respected for their discipline and their organization. They always looked out for each other. Whenever my dad had a military company they always asked after themselves with care. always talking about their numerous adventures they had together.  Now that was then. Because it is different from what i see today. How can the military be strong when they are not united? These days what i see is nothing but tragedy. The word discipline has been thrown into the bottomless pit, far a way from one’s reach. Back then, if a soldier should get into trouble out of the barracks, the whole barracks goes all out to try and solve the issue, then when they get back to the barracks, that soldier will be interrogated, and if found guilty, he is punished, but out of the barracks they will stand and defend their own. I was baffled to know that these days a soldier could get missing and nothing is done about it. If it was to be back then, for sure the whole barracks will not know peace until that soldier is found dead or alive no matter his or her rank. Yes i am talking about the case of Lieutenant Davou Mwankon Gyang.  I had known this brother way before he became an officer. I knew him well to be a good soul, and been a soldier, to be a fine soldier. I was shocked when i heard he was missing and no meaningful explanation has been given as to what happened to him “Lt. Col. Archibong gave me his phone number that he was going to get back to us immediately, since then he did not call us and whenever i call him he doesn’t pick up his calls” Davou’s father said this. If truly the military looked out for each other, i am sure that those other soldiers with Davou will not run and leave him behind. If it was an official duty, then they should be armed enough to help them escape any form of ambush. If Davou had to go for an operation in the area he was said to have been kidnapped, then  that means the area was a threat, are five soldiers enough to cotail the chaos  that might have come up in such operations? Now if that story was genuine, i don’t think the military should have waited for Davou’s father to come and find out such story himself.   Now this was a soldier who was doing his duty to make sure the civil people in the society are safe. Giving them an assurance that he will be awake will they sleep.  This soldier just got missing and no news as to what had truly happened that night  has been heard, leaving me to think that someone or some people are hiding something. Fine, you might say am writing this because Davou was my friend. What about Flying Officer Tolulope Oluwatoyin Arotile. How can a car on reverse knock her that had to cause her such injury that led to her death? How fast was the driver was reversing that he didn’t know when to step on the breaks. If truly it was an innocent mistake on the driver’s part which was a costly mistake, why is his name not given? Military personnel was hit down by God knows who, and they say it is a civilian case and so handded over the case to the police. In   God’s name how are these soldiers looking out for each other? These two young soldiers i mentioned  were in their prime and had one goal which was to make the country a better place, they just cant be forgotten. Their names and the names of others who had faced such fate should be written in history. They should be known and they reason why they lived a short life. Hey to you my fallen soldiers i write this in honor to you for sacrificing your lives in order to make our beloved country safe. If they don’t see the sacrifice you have made, i see it. So if they don’t see you as a hero, i want you to know that you are my hero.

Fear Kills

I remember at the last quarter of 1999 when this rumor of the world coming to an end by the year 2000 was circulating, that brought fear and panic across the world. many took their own lives, in order not to witness the “the last day”. Many sold their properties and dashed the money away. Many did unthinkable things all because of fear, now that is the power of fear. During the era when Ebola broke out. Africa at that time faced another share of fear. I remember seeing messages on whatsapp saying that people should put salt into water and drink that helps to fight away Ebola. People didn’t only drink water with salt, they also took their bath with it. How can i forget the unbelievable results that were gotten. I heard of a story about a woman who over poured the salt into a small cup of water and gave it to her few months old baby. Off course the baby died.

Now we talking about Covid 19. At some point the whole world went on stand still for a while. People were forced to stay at home all because of fear. Please don’t get me wrong, am not saying that Ebola or  Covid19 are just cooked up stories to bring us fear. All am saying is that unnecessary fear and panic is unhealthy, yet many still see nothing wrong with that, and have made a vow to make sure they promote fear in every way possible. I was going through articles online when i saw a write up that is warning the world against covid20. Warning that this particular covid is worst than the previous one. Now the question is, if truly there is covid20, then who created it. covid19 was a virus, now they say covid20 is airborne. These clearely shows that some people enjoy seeing other people in fear and panic which is very wrong. If truly there is something like covid20, then it clearly shows that nothing has been done to those who conspired and created covid19 in the first place. See what many people in meany countries went through all because of covid19. Isn’t it bad enough that many countries have not recovered from there lost all in the name of covid19. Now they are telling us to get ready for covid20. Well this is my own humble opinion. Since Many people have decided to use the social media space to promote fear and panic, it is true that we can not control the kind of information we receive, but we can surely control the ones we accept. Not all information is worth it.
